Horses for Camp

Spring is just around the corner and it's time to start recruiting camp horses!  We are looking to recruit 4-5 beginner-safe horses to round out the string this year.

  • Location:  YMCA Camp Reed (just east of Deer Park)
  • Timeframe:  Camp runs July 11-25.  We will pull in horses the week before camp to get them ready.
  • Requirements:  We teach beginner (walk/minimal trot) arena lessons and easy 1-3 mile trail rides.  Horses need to be able to stand tied and be handled safely.  Horses are housed in panel corrals.
  • Horses are reimbursed for hours worked at camp - there is a stipend for 5hrs/week.  Any work over that is paid by the hour worked.  "Working hour" may include mounted and unmounted time with campers.
  • It's a great resume builder or job for your retired confidence builder and they earn some money towards their hay bill!
  • Horses are housed in separate pens, fed twice daily and water is available at all times.

We would love to come and meet your horse prior to camp to ensure they are a fit for our program!
